I know it's been a while since I last posted. It feels like time has zoomed by since I returned.
Meanwhile today I found a slideshow online (from Reuters) of the 2008 Latvian Song Festival. I felt a catch in my throat when I came across this. Susan and I both wished we could have stayed longer in Latvia for many reasons, but one of them was surely the Song Fest, which brings together thousands to sing as one, every 5 years. So we are hoping to return in five years to be there...
From the Reueters slideshow:
Participants wearing traditional costumes greet spectators during the Latvian Nationwide Song and Dance Celebration procession in Riga July 6, 2008. The tradition of this festival goes back 135 years and in 2003 together with Lithuanian and Estonian Song and Dance tradition it was recorded in the UNESCO list of Masterpieces of Oral and Intangible Cultural Heritage.
I can only imagine the catch I'd feel in my throat if I were there.
